Build the credit skills essential for success as a C&I-focused business banker.
This Learning Path equips Business Bankers with the credit skills needed to consistently identify and pursue C&I lending opportunities through a high-level, decision-oriented review of borrower financials. The focus is on learning to interpret the story the numbers are telling—using key performance ratios, cash flow analysis results, and structured risk thinking to arrive at a sound, well-supported credit recommendation.
The curriculum is designed primarily for Business Bankers with limited experience in the role, building confidence and consistency in how borrower strength is evaluated, how repayment is explained, and how risk is recognized early. For bankers with more developed credit experience, selected sessions can sharpen and reinforce core judgment—particularly in areas like borrower performance, repayment sources, and documenting the credit story clearly.
This Learning Path is intentionally scoped to the Business Banker role. It strengthens the ability to evaluate a credit at a practical underwriting level, but it does not provide the in-depth analytical skill set expected of a Credit Analyst or Senior Credit Analyst. Instead, it trains bankers to ask better questions, recognize patterns, frame repayment strengths and weaknesses clearly, and escalate deeper analytical needs appropriately.
Recommended prerequisites: UCA Cash Flow and Tax sessions (3 courses) from the C&I Analyst curriculum (or demonstrated competency in those areas). This foundation ensures learners can interpret borrower cash generation and repayment capacity with accuracy before layering on projections, guarantor analysis, and risk mitigation.
Upon successful completion of this Learning Path, the employee will be eligible to receive a Business Banker Certificate of Mastery.
