Strengthen the disciplined credit judgment required to independently assess credit risk and validate underwriting quality.
The Learning Path for a Loan Reviewer is designed to strengthen the disciplined credit judgment required to independently assess credit risk, validate underwriting quality, and evaluate whether loan documentation appropriately supports the bank's risk position. Because Loan Review often intersects with documentation, controls, and portfolio governance, Shockproof Learning Paths also include recommended courses for individuals working in Loan Documentation, Loan Support, and Internal Audit.
The Primary Learning Path is built for Loan Reviewers who already have commercial lending experience and want to sharpen the skills most essential to high-quality review work: evaluating repayment capacity with forward-looking projections, assessing borrower performance and loan classification with consistency, and confirming that documentation aligns with the credit decision and can be enforced. It also strengthens technical cash flow analysis—moving from surface-level ratios to the deeper drivers of debt capacity—so reviewers can identify where a credit file is well-supported versus where it relies on weak assumptions or incomplete analysis. In addition, specialty lending options are included so reviewers can build targeted expertise when those borrower types are meaningful within their portfolio.
The Secondary Learning Path is designed for Loan Reviewers who lack Business Banking C&I or CRE lending experience. It provides a structured on-ramp to underwriting fundamentals, with the option of a C&I emphasis or CRE emphasis curriculum depending on the concentrations within the portfolio being reviewed. Some reviewers—especially those covering diversified books—may benefit from completing both tracks to ensure consistent, comparable review standards across borrower and collateral types.
Upon successful completion of this Learning Path, the employee will be eligible to receive a Loan Review Certificate of Mastery.
