Q: Do the metrics we are reviewing transfer over to an individual doctor who owns their own practice?
A: They largely do transfer. Payer mix is key, and it depends on location, the mix in payment sources from private insurance to public insurance, e.g., Medicare and Medicaid, and bad debt expense that is associated with medical charges not covered by private or public insurance, e.g., deductibles. Further, medical practices are not compelled to treat anyone who walks in regardless of health care coverage. That is, there is no EMTALA legislation that applies to private medical practices.
We do offer a webinar on Assessing Medical Practices that explores all the private medical practice risk issues in detail.
